Maybe Lee wants the move. If the money is right, he's got a guaranteed income for three years that takes him to 34. He might not have to commute every day etc. If it's the right decision for him, fair play to him.

Maybe there's more Lee wanting to leave Warrington than Warrington wanting Lee to leave, instead of having to keep earning a year, which you'd think at 31 he's have to do, he's got security sat there on the table. In the last three SL games which he's featured, Tony Smiths post match conferences have been littered with praise for Lee.

Good luck to him whatever he decides to do, I've thoroughly enjoyed watching him.

Compare Briers for us to Tommy Martyn was for Saints, or Iestyn Harris for Leeds, or Henry Paul for Bradford. They were all much more consistent performers than Briers was. When those players were at their clubs they were the main creative hub of their team, but after they left the clubs went onto be stronger. That will happen with us.

To me losing Briers is like losing Gleeson, a player who was good, but not quite what we hoped.

In my opinion we have managed to waste the talent of Lee Briers since the time that Allan Langer left the club.

Briers signed as a scrum half, was moved to 6 to accomodate Langer ( and to learn from him ) but then the club should have moved him back to scrum half.

It is no coincidence that , although playing at 6, his most consistant seasons were with Nat Wood playing at 7 where we had a passing halfback in Briers and a running half back in Nat Wood.

Briers relishes controlling the offence and it came as no surprise last season, when the responsibility was taken from him and given to Monaghan, that he had one of his poorer seasons.

I would be very sorry to see Briers go as I feel that the club have slightly failed him and regret not seeing him fully realise his potential. Maybe if Tony Smith( or another strong disciplinarian) had got hm 2 years earlier and ironed out any rough edges he could have finished his career at Warrington leading thm to silverware.

His performance at Odsal proves he still has the ability - but Warrington could have developed him as a player and a person far better than they actually have done.

I told my wife that a husband is like a fine wine; he gets better with age. The next day, she locked me in the cellar.

Exactly what I was trying to say, but not as well. He probably has at best one more season in SL. If he can get a 3 year gig in the lower leagues on good money then good luck to him.
