Warrington have already taken steps to strengthen for next season and yesterday completed the signing of Great Britain prop Garreth Carvell from Hull.

The Wolves paid a £50,000 transfer fee for Carvell after beating off stiff competition from St Helens and Bradford to secure his services for the next four years.

Also Lee Briers and Martin Gleeson have gone the other way.

A lot of our fans complain about injuries so if we do sign Gareth Carvell then the following players in our squad would all have poor injury records over the years, that would be almost a 3rd of the squad which is frightening really when your trying to keep a healthy squad in tact.

1. Stuart Reardon
2. Paul Johnson
3. Chris Bridge
4. Vinnie Anderson
5. Paul Wood
6. Lee Briers
7. Simon Grix
8. Gareth Carvell ?

If your signing players with a track record of injuries then its no suprise is it that we have quite a few injuries each season.

Well, you wouldn't sign anyone at all then would you.

Common sense tells you that if your a club thats been suffering from injuries for the last few seasons then you don`t bring in a player that has only played 6 games in the previous season where most of his season was missed through injury, your asking for trouble.

Players have minor knocks at most clubs and miss the odd game in a season as thats the nature of the game, its these players with long spells out through injury we should be avoiding, maybe thats just to much common sense for this board and i appologise for that.

Carvells stats:

2003 - 21 appearances, 199 tackles, 1578 metres
2004 - 13 appearances, 145 tackles, 1335 metres
2005 - 19 appearances, 243 tackles, 1824 metres
2006 - 25 appearances, 482 tackles, 2289 metres
2007 - 17 appearances, 299 tackles, 1677 metres
2008 - 9 appearances, 155 tackels, 957 metres

So 23 appearances on average, 254 tackels, 1610 metres.

At £135k a year that's £5.8K a game, £530 a tackle 0r £83 a metre.

If you think he is worth that, for another 4 seasons, then good luck to you.

His average appearances are wrong there, more like 17.5 games.

Nobody is saying he is rubbish. We are suggesting that a player who has averaged just 17 games per season over the last 6 years might fairly be considered to be injury prone and a somewhat high risk for a long-term big-money contract.

And yes, we were having the same discussion on our board before we knew he was leaving.

Nick Fozzard joined Warrington with a terrible injury record. He then hardly missed a game in four years for Warrington and St Helens (until this season).
