I can see your point but I wouldn't sniff at beating Wigan, getting a step closer to a cup and a trip to wembley.

There is no law saying we can't do both and I wouldn't gamble on us winning the GF.

I want a win this week.

Not very often I've agreed with jd on here, but I'm with him on this one.

I just don't by into all this cod psychology of losing next week makes us slight favourites to finish top....complete hogwash.
Winning your games keeps your confidence levels up.
(Potentially) losing a big QF to your main rivals, does not help your attempts to win the league.

With regards to the league, I feel that Wigan have one game to lose ( v us), all the rest, they should be quite comfortable wins

We have two games to lose (Worriers, and that horrible looking away game in the South of France heat), all the rest, should be quite comfortable wins

I can't see for the life of me, how (potentially) losing next week's cup match, will help us finish top of the table after 27 rounds .

tell you what, i wonder if some wigan fans actually watch any matches not involving wigan, the amount of rubbish on there about us is fantastic.

poop goal line defence, can't defend for more than 20 mins at a time.

Charnley, for me when I've watched him seems to come out of the line alot and I'm sure Smith will know this, therefore we should prioritize to attack down his wing. I think we'll see the a variety of attacks, from the Hodgson cut out pass to the Hodgson grubber into the corner for Joel ala Huddersfield, to try and catch Charnley out as if he comes out the line he'll be wrong footed.

Basically, Charnley is the weak-link for me.

charlene and joel, if we get within 30 metres and get the link on MM-RM-LB-BH it could be a field day, that left edge attack could shatter them.

Our bad luck with injuries could nto have come at a worst time. From what I can figure next week we are likely to be without:

Morley - at least 2 weeks away
Solomona - the club has been quiet on why he missed Harlequins but I believe he's gone for the season.
Myler and King - both had to stay overnight in London due to head injuries and must therefore be a doubt for next week
Atkins - asked to play with his knee strapped-up yesterday to see if it could last 80 minutes. Broke down and therefore will now have the op this week to be ready for next season
Cooper - told that cut must heal before doctor will give the ok to play again - probably another two weeks
Harrison - pulled-up during warm-up yesterday and looks like his harmstring will keep him out three weeks
Riley - harmstring injury keeping out of the u20s even

Where did you hear all this?

I've heard mostly the opposite.

Charnley had a mare against us last time. I seem to remember Lockers taking him to one side and talking to him on his own as his confidence seemed shot. I think he may get a few kicks from Briers heading his way early on in the hope of putting him under pressure. It'll be a tough task for him anyway if we line up with King and Joel on the wing. Richards looks to be fairly safe under the high ball, but Charnley's not the tallest. As stated above, he'll also have to deal with the Monas-Myler-Briers-Hodgson link and if he starts shooting out of the defensive line, Wire will have a field day.

Charnley is 6 feet tall, so he's not small, and is certainly faster than Joel Monaghan. At 20 years of age what he doesn't have is experience, but he has done very well for Wigan this season.

Although on some parts when talking of the quality of certain players in the wigan ranks this year ie mossop, leuluai, carmont etc he isn't wrong, but he's underestimating the threat that you pose, it will certainly be a close game, one I cant call. The only thing I flat out agree with him on is that it would have made a fitting final. Here's hoping we get it for old trafford, and of course a wigan win in both :D

Things I learned on 11/08/12

Gareth Hock can't pass

Gareth Hock can't fight

I'm assured he can snort a line of coke the size of a Mecca dauber though.
