I would vote for the most left wing candiadate communist / socialsit whatever and then move across the spectrum depending on who was standing.

However depending on the circumstances i may vote for a single issue candidate as a protest or if i felt strongly enough about it.

If i felt my vote counted significantly i would vote whichever way kept the Tories out.

I have no truck with new Labour as they have sold progressive WC politics out.

Saying that i have some sympathy with my current MP who is a strong constituency MP.

I may be misinterpreting your words, but are you suggesting the Tories are the party of transparency and non-self interst? I know '97 was a long time ago, but I am sure you can recall the cash for questions and general sleaze which made Labour's journey to Nr 10 rather easy.

Agreed, fag end of a Conservative administration which festered under Major's weak leadership through a poor electoral mandate, often direction-less and at odds with its core Conservatice principles.

Unless my memory has recently failed me I seem to also recall more recent comparable, if not more impressive, sleaziness from within the New Labour Government. Mandellsons double resignation, Keith Vaz, Lord Irvine, Ron Davies, leadership campaign funding, expense claims etc etc. Even our dear old Lord Hoyle is not immune and was condemned for being in the employ of an arms dealer. (web references can be sent for all of these points by the way)

At times like this I often like to quote William Hague in 1997 "Their (The Labour party's) politics without conscience brought fascination
to begin with, then admiration; next it will bring
disillusion; finally it will being contempt."

How true. Thank god it's coming to an end soon.

They want the right to say we are Britain, we are capable of deciding our own laws and taxes and making decision in the best interest of the people of this nation. Do you think the free movement of people is a good thing ?
i prefer self governance like it has been for, oh centuries.
I'd prefer people here on merit, i don't think that is unreasonable.

Within an economic union, yes. I might even say yes more generally. If I wanted to marry a Pole, then I certainly would.

My reply was in relation to WWI and WWII as well you know. Broadening the argument though, which conflicts to which you are aware, have British forces been deployed where there wasn't an existing democratic voting system or to bring about a democracy? Let me remind you The Nazi Party was freely elected in 1932 by the German people, Iraq and Afghanistan had a democratic electoral system.
