Indications are that he may well miss a fair chunk of the season.

Should be back in time for the playoffs.....if we make them

Didn't William Webb Ellis pick up the ball and run, someone should really tell Rugby Union.

It isn't a player's fault if he picks up an injury and shouldn't be blamed or derided. However i don't understand why our club doesn't seem to take into account a players injury record when signing him.
Carvell is a great player but we knew before he signed that his record shows that he misses many games through injuries. we already had to many players in the squad that fit that description and in carvell's position of prop we already have a player that has had several procedures to a shoulder and another at the end of his career with 'back issues'.
It won't suprise me when we start with only one first choice prop in a game this season.
I must admit to breathing a sigh of relief when Johns announced his retirement.

The same club that had injury clauses in Fozzard and Laughton's contracts?

I was just thinking that - we signed Fozzard and Hilton in 2002 when both of them had suffered multiple broken arms in the preceding seasons.

Sometimes it is a gamble which comes off, you can get your hands on a quality player who other clubs are overlooking because of being worried about injuries. When Blackburn signed Roque Santa Cruz he had a history of injuries at Bayern Munich but thats rarely mentioned now he's a striker lots of clubs want.

I know Andy Coley's star has waned a bit in the last couple of years but there was a while when he was one of the best forwards in the league and given that he's a Warrington lad everyone was saying why did Wire miss out on him. I read an interview with Coley where he said Warrington were looking at him during Van de Velde's time but we thought he was too much of a risk because he'd had a knee reconstruction so young. If we'd have signed him and he'd got injured everyone would have said we should have seen that coming...

I think it comes down to making an educated risk now and again, it does seem like Warrington have signed lots of players with a track record of injury so we have to take the rough with the smooth if we do find some of them go down again.

Shame they don't have these clauses anymore isn't it.
I don't mind gambling on the odd player but we are gambling on to many. I have to roll my eyes when the club blame a poor season on being unlucky with injuries. What do they expect.

Don't they? I can't confirm either way as I am not party to the contract details. Are you?

I can accept failure, but I can't accept not trying.

All super league contracts contain a clause which allows a club to terminate a players contract if he is injured for continually 6 months.

Warrington are choosing not to exercise the right to do so.

reading ur posts on injuries ,do u think condition or the lack of it could be to blame .
most of you who played know if your not fit you tend to pick up injuries a lot more easy, why im saying this before last season we lost our conditioner and never replaced him.
we gave the job to an unqualified person the result been we had an horendous year with injuries
the first thing jon sharpe did when he came to the club was bring in a top conditioner fron the giants ,after a great preseason we now look fitter and bigger maybe this could be partly to blame
