I suppose some blokes do like the status of minor celebrity, and social networking is a way of doing a bit of showing off and hooking up with girls. A couple of the more attractive girls I know from uni are facebook friends with DJs or blokes who play in bands, these guys send them messages if they're up in town along the lines of "hey babez, hope ya behavin
playin a gig at such and such next weekend, you best be there
" Their intention is to arrange a facebook meeting with the girl and hopefully get more, they're hoping the girl is going to be excited and impressed that a low level celeb is messaging them and will be up for it.
It's no different from the lonely young lads who use social networking sites to add random girls trying to get internet dates, but they're more likely to get a response if they are low level celebs. Isn't that what Keith Senior did to arrange to meet up with that woman in Aus?
It does look naff though, I can't imagine Adrian Morley sat at his computer sending facebook pokes to randomers he's never met.
