Is there any evidence that getting these free weekends helps?

For Wire it would probably cause us to "lose momentum".

We spell players in meaningless leagues games, not a CC competition that you can win in only 4 games!!

I'm not saying rest players for this cup tie, or not want to win it, just that it's far from the end of the world getting knocked out of a competition that is increasingly losing its sheen.
