Re: Lowlight / Highlight : Sat Aug 27, 2022 1:57 pm
I enjoyed the magic game v catalans, other than that I've not really enjoyed this season at all. It wasn't as bad at the start when I had optimism the team would gel and start to show improvements. Ratchford goal kicking I suppose, that said he didn't have to kick anywhere near as many conversions as we would have liked. Mid season recruitment to try to turn around our fortunes. Another positive is that the matchday gimmicks have disappeared and hopefully now the club realise that matchday experience means absolutely nothing if the team is rubbish.

Lowlights: being in a relegation battle, the slow painful realisation that it was only going to get worse, genuine apprehension about a home game against bottom club toulouse (let that sink in). Knowing our front row wasn't anywhere near good enough and being proven right, Dean being singled out for a bad kick in a season where I don't actually remember anyone else coming up with as many good ones despite a lot more game time. Powell deciding ratchford with Williams in the halves is the future when it definitely won't work.

The worst part of all of it is that I have zero optimism for next season, no faith in Powell and no faith in KFP to pull the plug on him when it's time. I'm really concerned that season ticket sales will be very, very low.

Highlight - Wrench's performance at Leeds in the opening game, and that had some poor bits in it. The pass to Ashton to put him away to score was quality.

Lowlight - Where on earth do I start.......

Highlight - I think we're underselling our youth production here... Despite the odd rookie mistake, our breakthrough players look far better for their age than our past products ever did, and our academy team tops the table with some outstanding talents in key positions. We're getting upset over shipping out some overpaid, underperforming 'stars' when we should be heartened by the fact that we've retained those who will no doubt play a key role in the club's future.

Lowlight - Resilience. This year was always going to be tough and a bit up and down, but to consistently collapse from winning positions was more depressing than getting nilled every week.

That's really not our problem. I hope they are low to send a signal to the club that we won't be taken for fools.

It's a massive problem if it means we can't spend the full cap the following season. For that reason I don't think he will have long and I don't want KFP anywhere near the selection committee for our next coach.

Highlight - the close defeat to St. Helens at home ........ how sad is that !!!!

Lowlight - the numerous capitulations from winning positions where previously our attack was dubious but the defence was pretty much rock solid ....... what on earth happened to our defence ?????

Highlight - meeting some pretty sound people on my early trips up on the south stand, finding myself caring a LOT more than I thought i would. Thewlis looking like a player.

Lowlight - the fact we can’t play the whole game, feels like so many collapses

Every year we say this. In the late TS era we were bragging about how we had so many home grown products in the first team. That's great if you're a winning side like Wigan but pretty worthless when you're at the wrong end of the table.

Anyway I can see the narrative on here next year - when all the new big signings come in and we're still losing everyone will be demanding they get dropped and bring back the young team from 2022 because "at least they had pride in the shirt".
