Anyhow, to be serious for a moment, it depends on Smith's long-term plan. If, for instance, he sees a halfback at 18 years of age in the Academy/reserves that he thinks could be the tallisman of the club for a decade, but isn't quite ready yet, he would probably bring in someone Orford-esque, in the theory that he could train closely with this kid and his experience would rub off on him,making him a better player when he is ready. There's no point bringing in a 19 year old from another club if you want one already here to step up.
On the other hand, if there isn't anyone here that Smith sees as taking on the long term tallisman role, then he would probably bring in someone to do that. Maybe not Myler, but someone of that mould; young, talented and eager to make a mark on the game/club.*
