We're the first ones to starve, we're the first ones to die
The first ones in line for that pie-in-the-sky
And we're always the last when the cream is shared out
For the worker is working when the fat cat's about

You remembered me. What a high honour indeed.

Anyhow, to be serious for a moment, it depends on Smith's long-term plan. If, for instance, he sees a halfback at 18 years of age in the Academy/reserves that he thinks could be the tallisman of the club for a decade, but isn't quite ready yet, he would probably bring in someone Orford-esque, in the theory that he could train closely with this kid and his experience would rub off on him, making him a better player when he is ready. There's no point bringing in a 19 year old from another club if you want one already here to step up.

On the other hand, if there isn't anyone here that Smith sees as taking on the long term tallisman role, then he would probably bring in someone to do that. Maybe not Myler, but someone of that mould; young, talented and eager to make a mark on the game/club.*

*Luke Robinson's quotations when leaving Wigan spring to mind there, for some reason.

Myler, would be a quarter of the cost of Orford.

Some Manly fans have set up a facebook group asking for Monas to be swapped with Orford immediately, based upon his poor form this season.

An ageing over rated Aussie...... just what we need.

Agreed with that, if we have any talent of our own at halfback in the age range of 15-17 then get Orford over for a couple of years, raise the standards of the first team, start feeding the young lad in and give him game time where he doesn't have to be a dominant partner, then let him hit the ground running when Orford leaves.

If the cupboard is bare then importing a younger upcoming player from outside who is hungry for success will be a smarter move.

BUT - the danger with Myler is that if he is as good as people think he is, he may not necessarily be a much longer term option than Orford, unless Warrington start winning things pronto. Lets say Myler signs a 3 year deal with us, becomes Englands starting halfback but we don't win any trophies. Half way into his second season we start hearing that he wants to join a club which will further his ambitions and he is released with the line "We only want players who are committed to the club....."

Both quality players.

Orford would be best in the short term. Simply stay for 2/3years, play a big part in getting Wire to where they want to be, pick up his pay cheque then leave.

Myler on the other hand wont have as big of an impact, but his stay could be long term. A bit like Sean Long of Saints. Long isnt as good as Orford but Long has been at Saints most of his career and has played a big part to where they are now.

Yeh but that's a daft argument. In order for us to step a level above where we have been in the past few years, we are going to have to sign young players with success ahead of them instead of behind them. If we say, no we'd best not do that in case they decide to leave, we'll never get anywhere!
