Why do people still use the dreaded 'D' word when a player is on the bench?
I note the Guardian included it when referring to Briers in this weeks match report. Haven't people twigged that we have moved on since the days of putting the best 13 on the pitch and simply filling up the bench with four blokes who aren't really good enough for much else than getting splinters in their backsides?

No, it is for the player deemed to have made the biggest impact, but generally they make an impact by being a good player. If there have been players who have been better than them, surely they will have generally made a bigger impact. Therefore, it is closely linked to player of the year.

The Man of Steel is generally recognised as the best player in SL.

I'm not aware of coaches being nominated. It is described as a players award.

Your initial response to the ditch's post suggests he says Roby was not the best player, when he didn;t say that. He questioned Roby getting it, not saying that he wasn;t the best player.
