Hicks will stay next year : Mon Apr 20, 2009 12:38 am
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/rugby/200 ... -21284154/

Chris Hicks is ready to sign a new deal with Warrington Wolves despite the uncertain futures of fellow Aussies Matt King and Michael Monaghan.

The former Manly star, 32, is out of contract at the end of the season. But on the eve of Warrington's trip to fellow strugglers, Bradford Bulls, Hicks said: "There's no reason why I wouldn't want to stay.

"I'm due to hold talks with the club in about a month or so. And I would love to stay.

Thought needs to go into this one. Hicks is a good pro, keeps himself fit and delivers, so on the face of it it's a straightforward decision to renew. However there is always the risk of keeping a player one year too long. A contract extension shouldn't be a reward for good performances its an expectation of good performances in the future. All things considered I would probably take the gamble as he has a reputation for being a very fit athlete, and guys like Menzies and Forshaw managed to keep themselves performing well at 34....just needs careful thought.

Chris Hicks 84 His stats before Bradford game were pretty poor and was nowhere near even being on that list ! He should go imo and another winger signed ,He had only scored 4 tries in 8 games before that Bradford game with a mere 18 successful conversions so he virtually doubled his stats in 1 game .Waste of a quota spot imo !The question is how many Aussies are there who can get a visa these days !

Before the game he had 54 points, and was only not scoring many tries because he was at full back, or when he was on the wing the team were playing terrible, not giving him the chance to score.

He is not a top quality winger imo his body position when he attacks the line is too upright which imo gives the defencive line a much easier task in pushing him into touch,He also doesn't have much pace and I would rather have someone like Fox from KR who is stronger and quicker ,but that's just my oppinion you have your own I just don't agree with you !

At current levels we still have plenty of over seas quota left, he has been our best over seas signing out of last 4 that came over. It would be good use of the quota.

And if we have him next year, hopefully he can be an excellent back up goal kicker for who ever we bring in (fingers crossed)

P.S. why does Hicks never put an kicks in in normal play, surely he must be better than some of our players who regularly end up kicking

:? I'm not sure I've ever seen Hicks being pushed into touch due to being too upright. He usually has the experience and sense to step inside at the right time.

I'd be happy enough to keep him.

More thank likely because he's over on the wing - it would require him coming centre field to put in the kick?

In regards to keeping Hicks? I think we should. He's a good professional, sure he 'doubled' his points so far after the Bradford game, but the same can be said for the whole team? That game alone added 38.5% to our total points scored prior to Bratfurt - so it isnt just Hicks that stepped up to the plate on Friday.

King (based on his improved form) and Hicks to stay.
