Ricky Hatton is a top bloke and has been an incredibly tough fighter over the years, I think the sad fact is his lifestyle has been a limiting factor. All through the build up in the Hatton v Mayweather fight I hated the fact that team Hatton seemed to make a joke out of the contrast between the beer swilling pie eating Hatton and the teetotal fitness obsessive Mayweather. Then this one it made me cringe with that song they played when Hatton came out singing about he's never seen a salad, he ate all the pies etc. His mates probably thought it was funny but at the top of sport things like that make a difference and it made him look stupid when he got battered.
A great boxer but you wonder if he could have gone the extra mile against the very best if he had been a dedicated trainer, when you look at the best British sportsmen, Steve Redgrave, Chris Hoy, Joe Calzaghe, they have that relentless drive and self sacrifice to be the best. Hatton didn't, he knew he had lots of ability and he got by on that ability and his toughness, for so long, but against the very best he didn't have enough.
