Lowes was given a lot longer than that and nothing changed, in fact, it almost certainly got worse.

It is pretty much a coach's track record that buys them time. Cullen saved us from relegation so was given a lot of time. If noble hadn't achieved what he had at bradford, wigan would've shown him the door by now. That is the simple reason why smith will be given time.
