Admittedly, I am going off the original post from Mario which states "has now been accused of using email addresses from the club for use in his new job at Swinton Lions." and we all know how wonderfully accurate Mario a.k.a. Neil Barker was as a journalist. If he doesn't work for your club then you have no worries, but if he does work for Swinton and has been using the mailing list without permission then the Information Commissioner's Office might be paying your club a visit.

As to the DVLA you might want to check if they have an opt-in or an opt-out policy for their communications database

Every company should have an "opt-in" policy regarding passing on personal info, adding you to mailing lists etc. I'm sick to death of being spammed and no matter how many times I ask to be taken off said mailing lists I keep getting bombarded.

One of the scourges of modern society!!! (along with those ba$tard fake profiles on Tinder! )

Most do, but manipulate the wording so much, with double negatives you need to spend 10 mins on each, going through it word for word to work out where to tick or not.

I believe the DVLA is slightly different though and legislation allowed it to sell data and personal number plates ( no opt in/outs), just a scheme to make money.

o/t but to do with DVLA: possibly future privatisation and making it attractive to buyers http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/ho ... 78419.html I worry for MV if the bankruptcy order of 19/02/16 has anything to do with him as it could prevent him from action in several roles.
