It is very difficult to time a tackle to a moving players legs to hit a knee while the leg is only temporarily planted. Which is why I don't think the tackle was malicious.

Asiata must be an expert then, he managed it 4 times in 1 game.

No simply put his name in the definition of Rule 15.1(i) to make it easy for you to understand. Obviously failed, oh well never mind.

The club needs to get official clarification from the RFL and Disciplinary that this type of "Cannonball Tackle" on the knee joint is legal and allowable. The club can then prepare for this type of technique to execute on Asiata in the home against Leigh.

I believe the scans on Passi's knee is showing up far worse than expected, 9 months is a bit optimistic its probably closer to a career ending situation.

How do you actually know this?

What players have recently retired from a knee injury a couple of days after sustaining it?

I don't think anyone is arguing against the outlawing of the cannonball tackle. My understanding is a cannonball is a tackle to the legs of a stationary player, whereas my recollection is that both injured players were moving. It is very difficult to time a tackle to a moving players legs to hit a knee while the leg is only temporarily planted. Which is why I don't think the tackle was malicious. Unless you are banning tackling to the legs, while a player is in motion, what are you proposing?

Fair point re cannonball and stationary. I don't disagree on malice either. What I'm looking for is something which would prevent direct hits to the knee area (possibly I'm asking too much?) but I really don't want to see players with serious, potentially career ending, injuries. I know I'm not alone in that.

TheWarrringtonWolve69's post re Leigh and it's supporters removed.
As a result any post quoting that post has gone too.

I don't think it's fair to have a go about the Paasi tackle, the lad's running full guns at the line and he tackled the legs just like anyone else would. Walmsley tackle doesn't look great though.

It is, however, incredibly rich of Saint Helen's fans who around Grand Final time were gloating about Morgan Knowles getting off scot free after he tried his best to break an opponents arm, to be quite so incandescent about this incident.

I'm 62 & relatively fit, but there is barely a part of my body that doesn't ache on a daily basis, all from playing RL. I know what the effects of the game & foul play can be, so am not taking this situation lightly. But I genuinely don't know how you can tackle from the side, below the waste, without there being some slight chance of an injury to the leg, particularly if you are trying to stop momentum, which is the point of the tackle.

Same age, I have aches & pains and haven't played RL since school so I'm sure you're a better judge (although of course we're all allowed thoughts / opinions). Out of curiosity, if I may, how many years did you play and to what level (it seriously is just curiosity)?

This pic might not prove anything, but a serious injury could've occurred here during the same game.
