The level of childishness on here is remarkable. If you're not 13 and sniggering behind your phone screen, you're pathetic.

Paul Wellens:

"In my opinion, and I think very few would disagree with me, this weekend the governing body has failed in it's duty to protect it's players. On the weekend, we had four players injured by one player tackling in a reckless and dangerous manner. Alex Walmsley is having MCL surgery and will be out for twelve weeks. LMS will not play for two weeks probably. Paasi has torn ankle ligaments, torn MCL and will also undergo an operation. He will not play for a minimum of nine months. When making decisions not to charge players who are tackling in that manner, is that we give the green light for coaches and players at all levels to tackle like that. As I sit here now as someone who loves the game, that doesn't sit with me and it doesn't make me feel comfortable. I have an eight year old son who plays at Pilkington Recs, who plays the game with a smile on his face every week. But if that's the kind of tackle we're allowing in our game, then maybe rugby league isn't a game that I want my son playing anymore. I feel that strongly about it.

In Agnatius and Alex, we have two extremely disappointed, angry, upset players that they've been left in this position and the game hasn't protected them."

What a shizer comment.

Now, I don't honestly care about punishing Asiata. He's cynically used a dangerous technique to try to win the game for his team. As it's technically not outside of the rules, it's hard to see any just punishment there. The rules do need to be clarified however and tackles like that attacking knee joints with the shoulder have to be made illegal moving forward. He's single handedly decimated a team in one game. Imagine if the whole league started doing it? It'd be an unmanageable bloodbath.

And hopefully the fallout from this sees the RFL sued and the MRP all sacked and the disciplinary process rewritten. It'll be interesting to see what would happen if Paasi took legal action against them for his injuries, particularly if he ultimately doesn't make a comeback.

Which is ironic really given that rather than question their own teams tackling techniques when they've received ban after ban, they've tried to claim some sort of conspiracy.

I've no problem with any of the bans given to Saints players this season what I do have a problem with is a bloke's ended the season of ywo players and nothing being done

The club needs to get official clarification from the RFL and Disciplinary that this type of "Cannonball Tackle" on the knee joint is legal and allowable. The club can then prepare for this type of technique to execute on Asiata in the home against Leigh.

I believe the scans on Passi's knee is showing up far worse than expected, 9 months is a bit optimistic its probably closer to a career ending situation.

Even before the Passi incident, I felt very uneasy and uncomfortable watching that lad tackle. A shocking technique, 2 season ending injuries and it could have been more. The passi one looked like a “throw whatever you’ve got at the man to defend your own line” and although he did a job, it’s come with consequences.

Made up for Leigh. I’m a Widnes fan and watching their development this year has been a breathe of fresh air, and I hope they go onto win something.

Not here to throw the book at anyone but at minimum, Leigh really need to work at Asiatas tackling technique before more get injured.
