The other reasons were

Sam wasn't very good value for his very high salary
Sam's body wasn't up to the rigours of the NRL
The Warriors had a far better player lined up to replace him
The Warriors also knew a club that would snap their hands off and take him off their hands

Did you miss those other reasons out on purpose?

Tomkins was probably quite keen to be the best fullback in the league again too, something he was never capable of in the NRL.
