Re: World Cup Ticket Sales : Tue Nov 12, 2013 1:44 pm
In short, all is good. Indeed, it's better than anyone could have hoped. It does make you wonder how big our World Cup could get by 2017/2021. If the Aussies and Kiwis put Sally B in charge and gave her a bigger budget and team - and god knows she deserves one - then they could sell even more than we are doing this time round. If we look at how many tickets we sold in Rochdale to the Fijians, then we can apply that many times over in NZ/Australia. For 2008, they basically opened the doors and got 300k through them with no build up, effort or belief. If I have enough time, I am sure I could put together a blue print for 700k attendances in Oz/NZ with the same sets of teams we have had. Certainly, you could double 300k with a bit of gumption.
It would be a stretch for us to match those figures, but the only way is up over here. More games in bigger stadia in France, bigger stadia for the England group games, years of work and investment in Wales (if need be, salary cap exemptions for Welsh union players), there is a lot to build on just in areas in which we have already shown there is interest.
