What it really comes down to with NRL recruits is application. If they really give it their all or close to then they look great, if they go through the motions then you’d be better off getting a homegrown player for probably much cheaper. Interesting to see Leeds dust off the cobwebs off the chequebook with a marquee signing and apparently a 2nd to follow. Becomes more clearer that it was the prolonged stadium work which lead to a lack of activity and spending, now that the work is pretty much done and how it’s all being paid for finalised then we know what we can spend. McDermott deserves even more credit for getting as much success out of the squad he had given he wasn’t given the same luxury with the chequebook.

think at Leeds it was a grose over estimate of the strength of the squad and some younger players not making the breakthrough that was expected rather than simply not wanting to spend, the squad on paper looked good strong at the start of the year, but injuries and some people simply not pulling there weight took its tole. sometimes it just falls into place sometimes you simply have to invest a bit more.

As a Widnes fan I can't really disagree. Lloyd White is a quality hooker but spends at least half the season on the sidelines.



For all of the hype, Whitley isn't that great.
