Try assists : Thu Mar 26, 2009 7:34 am
Ben Jeffries on 8, just behind Danny Orr on 10 and way ahead of the rest despite having played a game fewer than most.

Ok, so a try assist doesn't necessarily mean you gave the killer pass. But in one sense it is as notable as tries scored, isn't it? Either way, well in BJ. :)

More than half of what Deacon got for the whole of last season & nearly as many as Deacon got for 2007. (And more than half of his own tally last season I realise)

Having seen the highlights of the Catalans game, Jeffries looked to have a much better game than he had previously and was getting slated for (and perhaps rightly so).

As was said before, when he hits some form, he can be a really good player. Let's hope he does hit that now.

I am not the only one who has noted Jeffries' improving form as the season has gone on, and god knows we need him on form. He seems to have clearly knuckled down and ignored the knockers, if his press comments are anything to judge by. As he has always been a 7 not a 6, but as it is clear he is going to be a permanent 6 for us, I wonder whether maybe it has taken him a season or so to start to really get to grips with the specialised demands of playing in the stand-off role instead of scrum-half.

Whatever. The break and sweet pass for Halley, under extreme pressure on the last play at a critical stage of the game, showed vision, an exemplary cool head, decent pace, quick thinking and a touch of class, and underscored Jeffries' continuing improving form in the best possible way.

No, Deacs will soon be back to the form of arch-organiser, that has won us so much silverware for so many years, you mark my words.

Not bad stats but the biggest challenge for BJ is to peform consistantly well over a longer period of time, not just one good game here and one good game there.
