I am not the only one who has noted Jeffries' improving form as the season has gone on, and god knows we need him on form. He seems to have clearly knuckled down and ignored the knockers, if his press comments are anything to judge by. As he has always been a 7 not a 6, but as it is clear he is going to be a permanent 6 for us, I wonder whether maybe it has taken him a season or so to start to really get to grips with the specialised demands of playing in the stand-off role instead of scrum-half.
Whatever. The break and sweet pass for Halley, under extreme pressure on the last play at a critical stage of the game, showed vision, an exemplary cool head, decent pace, quick thinking and a touch of class, and underscored Jeffries' continuing improving form in the best possible way.
