In last week's League Express there was a letter from me about the decline in the mental health of some players when they stop playing the game, some referees when they stop refereeing the game and some supporters as they begin to grow old. My suggestion on how to stop or slow this down is for people to start now by spending time on writing a novel based broadly on their own life, family experiences and memories of their child hood, school days, employment, home town history and their rugby league interest and connections.
Many people who I have suggested this to, have said that it seems a good idea but they would not know how to do it. For their benefit, I have written three pages of general advice. I am in a good position to do this because since starting work on my first novel "One Winter" in 1988, I have now written nearly half a million words in six novels in my Ashurst series. If you would like to read these pages, E Mail me at wgeofflee@gmail.com and ask me to send you Geoff's RL Writing Advice Sheets However you may prefer to read one of my novels first or give one to someone as a present at Christmas. If so, I suggest my latest novel which is called "Three Good Years" . It has a background of Work, Family Life, Saving the NHS and Rugby League and is set between 2006 and 2008. If so ,then visit the website of the publisher London League Publications at www.llpshop.co.uk. Click on books and then fiction. |
