I've seen a lot of pictures today of what it looked like before Ken Bates redeveloped it. Basically Odsal but a bit a smarter...

Almost identical stadia. The key thing here is that Chelsea redeveloped their bowl in the early 90's. We are still stuck in our bowl 30 years later. It also helps that they play in London and had a rich backer at the time.

Actually quite different underneath, although looking similar.

Stamford Bridge is on flat land and the banking was built up - easy(er) to clear.

To get the same landscape at Odsal, you'd need to fill in, rather than take away.

A farmer by us made a cool £1m allowing inert landfill in one of his fields....Imagine how much you'd make filling that crater??? You'd be able to build a stadium over the road.
