I might be being naive here, but if the point of the new cladding is to make the concourses more sheltered then what's the point of putting up stuff that's full of holes exactly? Might as well use the money to build another statue...

I think a good number of the "claddinggate" complaints were down to the stadium looking unfinished and so from an aesthetic point of view the semi-permiable cladding will do the job nicely.

Also, as is stated in the design & access statement of the planning application for the new cladding, a "full sheet" cladding solution would not have been possible due to the structure not being able to support the increased wind resistance it would generate. Effectively, solid cladding would have acted like a sail and caught all the wind and place excessive stress on the stadium structure which would presumably, given severe enough conditions, have tore the stadium to pieces.

I don't understand architects plans at all but when there is northings and eastings, can one assume that there is southings and westings? Or do northings and eastings mean something other than the location of the stands (ie north south east west)? Because, you see, if they ARE related to the stands ...

where's the flippin West Stand cladding?!?!?

Sammy Hills scrapyard, pays more than lead, so I'm led to believe
