In the link it said £50 million, and over only three years. So if the increase is as suggested at £90 million and the deal is for five years then that is quite a coup.

They are saying its a very slight increase. So no room for irresponsible salary cap increases

Yes, I suppose it is really as it's over an additional two years. I hadn't thought of it like that. Duh.

It's approximately £2 million per year more.

It probably works out just marginally better. It's approximately £2 million per year more.

Yeah - £90m / 5 years = £18m

Previous deal - £50m / 3 years = £16.6m

But the figure quoted was not including internationals and championship matches so there may be more to come.

The additional £2 million pays for Widnes to be added to Superleague without anyone getting demoted to the championship.
Or am i being a bit cynical.

It pays some of the monies due to HMRC for tax liabilities that are about to be paid for the image rights "problems"

Why? Surely the responsibility for that lies with the clubs? Those that can afford it, like Warrington, should have to pay it?

That's an extra £100k per club per year. Over three years that's not too bad (not great either) but it hardly gives us that much more to spend. In professional sports, what does £100k a year buy you? A new club shop? A chance to spend a bit more on salaries? If this was a three year deal that wouldn't be too bad because we'd be up for negotiating quickly again. Over five years it's not much and I think it pretty much rules out an extra team next year because there's no way the clubs can go without that extra money for the sake of an extra fixture (which the competition doesn't need).
