It's not how much talent you've got, it's what you do with it that counts.

Well, you clearly aren't happy, and I can't remember the last time you were. That's fair enough, but if we do sack Smith today, which available coach are you bringing in?

I’d go for Shaun Wane. I probably wouldn’t be massively enamoured with the playing style, but I’m not now either. At least he would start making us honest with ourselves again and cut out all the BS that we are seeing in attitude and application. I’d give him a 2 year deal and then move him to DoR.

as for coaches I've no idea. I don't watch aussie stuff really. ive no idea who is out there but then again it's not my job.
but i won't accept mediocrity and smith has shown nothing this year to prove he will do anything next year. and we are giving him carte blanch to do what he wants

No shame in being a grumpy old man. My worry is where/who next? In OZ we are shopping in exactly the same aisle as where we got Smith. No experienced coaches want to come. Wire offered Holbrook a fortune and he opted to remain an assistant coach. Other than Powell (no thanks) I don't see anybody here. I'd be keeping an eye on the Salford situation re finances with a view to appointing Paul Rowley somewhere down the line, and I'm sure that idea would have occurred to GH also.

Paul Rowley is a good shout - more than anything, Salford play a fantastic brand to watch.

I'm really confused by the whole RS situation. I still feel like there could be a stroke of genius somewhere in there and he is the man to lead us, or it's an utter disaster and the guy is totally uselss. But what's strange is that it doesn't feel like there's any options between those two extremes.

Smith is clearing out the dead wood and expensive salary cap that was left over from the Sinfield and Agar recruitment.

Leeming never impressed and wanted to leave when no longer first choice, so good failed in the NRL
Austin looked good at contract renewal for a few weeks, ask the Wolves fans. Side Step and Spiral bomb only two tricks.
Zane. Complete waste of marquee contract ( sorry about the illness )
Sezer another waster, plays so few games and when does mainly might as well be on the bench.

3 Key positions in any team and Smith was left with them. We need to change when contracts are up and salary cap allows.

Smith needs time as we have wandered for the last few years, short term fixes don't work and we need to stick with the long term plan.

Lets see who we can bring in and how the squad looks at the start of next season. Be honest we all knew this season we werent good enough and the grandfinal was a fluke.

His name keeps coming up but I just don't see it. He is nicely ensconced at Wigan and that is where his heart lies. In addition he's got the England job. Wire fans were keen on him when Powell was sacked and if the club asked they obviously got a "no". Just putting myself in his shoes I don't see what incentive he'd have to come, given that after a couple of losses the Twitteratti would be "off with his head"

Let all the doubters keep doubting and those who believe keep believing.

We’re only interested in those in the bubble. Anyone who wants to come in the bubble, you can come in.

But you’ve got to keep believing.

Wane is never going to leave Wigan to come to Leeds, even if he was the right person for the job (very doubtful). People need to start living in the real world.

I get the Wigan connection, it would be very hard to get him, but I do think he would at least have a conversation with us. We’re not Wire, we have so much more potential than them and frankly have fallen much further, so “fixing” us would be a much more appropriate challenge for him.

We need to reset standards and culture, they’re miles off right now, and those things come from the CEO and Head Coach. Wane would address this I believe.

I don't think going back to experienced SL coaches of old is the answer. Wane, along with the likes of Brian Noble and Brian McDermott have been doing the rounds for a while but no-one is biting, I wonder why? Coaches we might have a soft spot for from the golden era like Powell and Tony Smith aren't exactly doing great either.

I don't think he would come for all the reasons that you have given Arthur but I think he is the only coach potentially available of the right calibre who could make a cultural step change. I don't think he would shy away from challenging upwards when required. As such it looks like we are going to have to cross our fingers and hope Rohan works out. With the leadership team that we currently have one of our potential incoming marquee signings needs to be a natural leader as Smith seems quite passive and it's not coming from the back up coaches so it needs to be a leader on the field. Smith may be a very good coach but somebody needs to convey that to the players and provide that direction in game. We clearly need a top half back but I would be prepared to compromise on the centre if we could sign a natural leader who commands respect and I don't care if its a half, hooker, prop or back rower. Wade Graham rumoured to be considering Superleague and allegedly spoken to Catalans and 2 other superleague teams. While perhaps not the ideal position and not the player he once was if he could provide the required leadership for a couple of seasons that's what's required. Catalans have based their success last few years by having a couple of those types of players in their team. Maloney then Pearce in the halves and everyone's favourite player Mickey Mac in the forwards. All leaders maybe not the players they were previously but very influential within the playing group on setting culture and attitude and bringing the coaches agenda onto the pitch.

Re: Transfer Talk / Rumour thread V4 : Mon Sep 18, 2023 10:31 am
It`s a massive risk if we sack him based on little availability out there and yet another 2 to 3 years for a rebuild.
It`s also a massive risk keeping him with the way the team are playing.
The only solution imo is to keep him let him bring in his own players and give him the 10 games to prove himself.
If he can`t get them to produce he has to go and GH needs to have someone in mind ready to take over.
Good luck with that one.
I also see GH has come out again saying a full review is to take place after the shambles on Saturday.
That I would say is your final warning Rohan.
