"Brian McDermott, with a wry smile, nods when asked if he remembers a specific incident which made him realise he was a prick. 'I do', he murmurs."

Is there any reason to think the club is actually looking at or thinking about an additional winger? With Briscoe and Handley we have an obvious first choice pairing that the club has always rated more highly than some fans. Given wing is often a place to bring young players into the first team I find it hard to believe we'd go and get a third winger of first choice quality.

Just one or two rumours on here and Agar was quite broad when he was discussing recruitment.

I’m thinking T Briscoe might not be retained beyond next season. I know he’s well thought of but he looks past his peak now.

Handley’s season has been ruined by injury, COVID and having unsettled edge, centre and half backs on the left.

I dunno. The club knows so much more than we do about players behind the scenes. I trust their judgement at the end of the day - we can all see the club is going in the right direction. Winger wouldn’t be my own first priority but we have lacked strike this year.

Erratic distribution from dh and disruption in the halves has often resulted in plays dying with the centres. The wing positions are less of an issue once we get the nuts and bolts of our attack sorted. Unless there's a decent prop lined up, the decision not to retain king looks increasingly odd

Agreed. I would have thought it was vital to replace King with an upgraded version, another Ava type if poss. That would make the pack as good as any other in league, in my opinion. Then I would have thought the priority for 2023 would have a been an outstanding winger. Of course if you go on the maxim that your pack gets you to finals but your backs win them, we might not be in the winners circle next year. Maybe the club are doing what they can to address both for 2022. I trust them to get it right.

It's not how much talent you've got, it's what you do with it that counts.

Forwards decide who wins, backs decide by how much. We need another good prop before anything else.

Hm tell that to Jason Robinson skipping past Darren Fleary in the first GF.

Of course this quote is right in theory though. One more good prop and we'll be hard to handle next season up front. We should have the halves to use that platform too.

I just hope we can have a first choice 13 starting the season next year, and we stay relatively healthy.

But was it the Wigan forwards that laid the platform for Jason to do the business ?

It's a long time ago now but I thought our forwards really took it to Wigan that game actually! Glanville was immense.

Here's our pack from the game:
Masella, Newton, Fleary
Morley, Farrell
Glanville

Our future pack:
Oledski, Johnson, Holroyd
Gannon, Bentley
Smith

Or something like that.
