I didn't want to ask, in case it was some fiendish trap I hadn't seen & walked right into. However, since you've brought it up, I have to admit I was thinking the same.
On reflection, I suppose he means the jump from 5,500 to 7,500 by giving away tickets. But, as their levels soon dropped back to their original 5,500 figure, logic dictates that the only way to get AND KEEP these extra supporters would be to continually offer the cheap membership tickets. Presumably the club has decided that that is not an economically viable option long term.
The only problem with a 30% upturn in anything is when it's very shortly followed by a 30% downturn (& one had to show one's a**e to get that initial upturn in the first place!)
