This week: Four keys to a Rhinos win in the WCC

Alternatively, the success of all those clubs was despite rather than because of Lowes.
Certainly both Warrington & the Rhinos have prospered since his departure, the Rhinos especially.
How well did Salford, Warrington & Bradford do when he was head coach?
They hardly set the world alight.

I'm not the one saying he's a rubbish assistant coach though, am I?

He's certainly done well enough in that role to persuade a number of big clubs to employ him in it, which suggests some people at least consider it to be something he's good at. Unless the likes of Tony Smith and Brian McDermott wouldn't know a good assistant coach if they saw one?

Not quite sure where his abilities as a head coach come into the equation, given that's not the job he's been appointed to?

I'm sure those criticising the selection of Lowes as an assistant coach have extensive knowledge of his expertise in that role.

Have a look at the records of clubs where he's been an assistant coach - under Noble at Bradford, under Smith at Warrington and under McDermott at Leeds. Not too shabby.

My opinion and knowledge of lowes is based on several players whom I know. These players played in teams in which lowes was the assistant coach.
None of these players rated him very highly. His main focus seemed to be trying to outperform the players pumping iron in the gym.
Incidentally these same players spoke highly of Darryl Powell. Can I presume from your posting that you approve of the lowes appointment?.

You can presume what you like, I don't know him or his work well enough to judge whether he's the kind of coach you want around you in an international setup.

I do know that several highly rated coaches have been happy to appoint him as an assistant, so he must be doing something right despite what other people's opinions of him are.

He could well be a very good assistant and a dreadful head coach all at the same time. He wouldn't be the only one.

Yep. I get the impression that Richard Agar would probably fall into that camp too.

Judging by how things are going at Warrington I'd say Agar is dreadful as both an assistant and a head coach.
