any idea where he is going?
Stated at Leigh Fans Forum on Wednesday that he hoped to sign for Leigh next season. He is very popular at Leigh, especially with the kids, with whom he spends ages. Apparently his younger brother has signed for Leigh next season too.
So far, Ryan is our leading try scorer with 21, but has only started 7 games! He makes a habit of coming off the bench and scoring with his first touch - the latest example being last Friday, in the win over Halifax.
There is a problem of where to fit him in to the team - hence his cameo roles from the bench. Paul Rowley (as do most coaches) prefers a play-making scrum half, which Ryan isn't - yet. He has got pace to burn, at Championship level, and full back would seem a good option, but we have a similar player, in Gregg McNally there. Brierley is being used sparingly, against tiring defences, when he has caused havoc, providing he can get into the game.
Personally, I don't think he is anywhere near the 'finished article' and a couple more seasons in the Championship would be beneficial to him.
I would add that the feeling amongst Leigh fans - rightly or wrongly - is that he has been messed about at Castleford, from the point of being called back, and then not used. I guess he's found that particularly unsettling.
In summary, he is a very bright prospect, who can only improve.
