O/T A council of your own. : Sun Nov 29, 2009 11:05 am
If you had the power to disband the MWDC and form your own town council once again, would you?

Was in the local and got speaking to a Cas fan who agreed the WMDC isn't meeting the needs of all citizens.... SO is it time for seperate councils once again?

The citizens of Castleford are always very proud of where they are from, which is something i wish we had more of in Wakefield. Just wanted a wider consensus, not often i agree with tigers fans...

It would be nice for us to have our own town council but I doubt it will happen. The WMDC cannot ever even meet the needs of all citizens unfortunately. How come people from Wakefield don't seem to be proud of being from Wakefield ?

If you were born in Cas after the 1970's reformation in essence your as much from Wakefield as I am.

I think there is a direct correlation between the demise of civic pride and the formation of the WMDC.

Yes i take the point the WMDC can never meet the needs of EVERYONE in it's boundaries, but could that have anything do with essentially being removed from our local regions and formed into an all encompassing body which is far too indiscriminate to meet the needs of any of us.

(for the record i know your comment was tongue in cheek, but it illustrates the argument perfectly)- why force a town into a region they feel in no way part of. Surely it would better for everyone to represent themselves?

I believe it's no longer WMDC, it's just plain WC wakefield council.
Was told this at work last week, i work for the council and my boss told me they want to be called wakefield council, no idea why.

....and yes i would love to go back to our own council, castleford republic, sounds good to me.

I agree completely, if Im honest, it was tonge in cheek. I was born in neither Cas or Wakefield. I was born in York and moved to cas in 2005 and currently live in Normy. I am proud to come from York, I was proud to live in Cas and now I am proud to live in Normy. I think you should be proud of where you come from. I also beleive that each town should have its own identity and its own council. (sorry for the flippant answer earlier its just my way)

If fans feel so strongly they should start a petition.

Does beg the question, Would some Wakey fans feel so strongly as this if the Thornes Park project had gone ahead?

yes i would (though i would probably encompass the 5 towns in it as well, or as many of them that want to be part of it).

Lets face it, things couldnt get worse, i rememeber reading part of a report a few years back saying that wmdc was one of the 'most ineficient and incompetant councils in britain'.
