A bit late with my two-pennorth on this but I've been busy...
Broadly good news although I must admit I'm just a tad confused with the apparent closure on the design brief and the fact that it's ..er.. a draft:
The Tigers new stadium project has taken another important step forward in turning its plans into reality with the completion of a detailed draft design brief, including a schedule of the facilities to be included in the new stadium
The statement then goes on to say...
The club will be meeting with Waystone and Wakefield MDC representatives in the next few weeks to discuss and finalise the documents.
... so we've got a completed document that has to be, er, finalised with the developer and the council. Okaaaay...
My cynicism about the wording aside, however, it is as I said broadly good news. I suspect the truth of it is that all parties have actually agreed the 'stuff' they want at the site (one gym, two squash courts, etc) but not yet agreed the fine tuned version. These talks over the next few weeks will presumably bash that out, but it does seem at least that the club are confident enough with the brief as it stands o start inviting bids from architects...
We will be providing each [firm of architects] with a copy of the design brief and asking them to provide an outline plan for us to consider, and ultimately select a firm to move forward with
Even though it's the only one I can pick from this statement, it's still a pretty significant step forward, so good news. The sooner the architect is appointed the better because the timescale is starting to look a bit tight now. Shouldn't be a problem, because "being built" as late as early 2011 would still (I think) be good enough, and we're well ahead of that (twenty-)eleventh hour.
It'd still be quite nice to get a bladdy move on though...
