THE CO-OPERATIVE CHAMPIONSHIP NEEDS A STRONG WIGAN

Re: Wheldon Road - Retail Planning Application! : Fri May 20, 2011 12:52 pm
Solutions have to be found and problems need to be overcome. Opus know their stuff and wouldn't be investing time and money if the project was a non starter.

I'm hopeful we'll be safe for a franchise this time purely because Wakefield ended up in a financial mess at the worst time. They'd be little to choose between the clubs if that hadn't happened.

If it's not sorted for next time then I've no doubts at all that we'll be goners.

Debate - Yes.

Snipe and witter - No. And that includes trading insults and squabbling.

The topic is a valid one - if you all keep it that way...

You are not getting this at all are you!!!

I am really trying to help the fans of both clubs understand why they need to join together to fight the RFL not each other. You just stay in that bubble of yours and ignore this then and take the risk that Savills report will not uncover this and throw some major spanners into your SL application, just as big, if not bigger than Newmarket has done with Wakefield.

You will also clearly not be interested in knowing and think I am making things up when a friend and fellow industry professional has told me this morning that they (and many others) have been asked to and will be submitting (actually, it might have already have gone back, not sure) a fee proposal for one of the consulting packages for the planning application design work. They have been asked to submit their fee proposals for an approx 65,000 sq ft retail (not total area, just retail space) plus associated storage, service yard and car parking for a superstore and possible PFS on the WR site.

OR... am just making this up???

That is what they showed the planning officers and the planning officers have issues. Simple as!

This will happen in some form or other, I am sure, but not for quite a while yet... WAKE UP people or just keep taking the ostrich approach and put your heads in the sands... it might work and get you a license... or it might not!

This is not the ostrich approach IA, how are your ramblings helping Castleford?
This isn't Cas & Wakey v the RFL and never will be, the RFL have clearly stated that ONE team will drop out of Superleague and be replaced by Widnes, whether that be Wakey, Cas, Crusaders or whoever, no ganging together will sway the RFL, unless it is the other clubs that ALL get together, but that's not going to happen, they are not going to vote to receive less Sky money are they?
I believe the development of Wheldon Road is a great idea and ticks so many boxes and delivers so much to the town and to the area as a whole, with absolutely no cost to the council, who seem to prefer to splash the cash the way of the city of Wakefield and I don't just mean helping with funding the wildcats planning for the NM project, but the new but horrific looking Hepworth Gallery and the new shopping centre, it does seem that the town of Castleford hasn't had much in the way of support from the council in recent years, so it's about time that changed and making sure the Wheldon Road project gets the green light should be top of the councils agenda!
If you are so confident the RFL will listen IA, why not come up with something positive rather than your usual negativity about anything Tigers?

Someone over on t'other forum made a good point, why has the council wasted 30 odd million on an art gallery that to be perfectly honest, will hardly bring folk in will it  when for that money they could have built stadiums (well, contributed significantly to) for Cas, Wakefield AND Featherstone securing the futures of some of the biggest companies in the district and helping 2 towns and a city to build better economies.

The Hepworth will bring 250000 tourists a year to the region, and was built with the help of a great deal of grant money. The 30mill will be more than recovered, and is an investment not just for Wakefield but for the whole of Yorkshire for years to come. More people will visit the gallery than any of the individual clubs over the year. Live and let live .... it may not be your cup of tea, but then RL is a minority sport!

I highly doubt it will be that successful and I'd even go as far as saying it'll be closed down within 3 years maximum.

Why would people go there when there are far bigger & better galleries only a couple of hours away?

EVENTUALLY, WE'LL WIN SOMETHING, ,MAYBE, IF I'M STILL ALIVE THEN

The best solution for both clubs is to do what we did on Good Friday, and the other teams, and show that exciting local derbies do more for rugby league than some pin on a distant map. See you Saturday, and I hope we're both in next year.

Tourists from all over the world visit a dis-used power station in London! I drive past it every day as well, and while I agree its not a pretty building I would argue that its harsh lines and bleak colour reflect the history of the industrial area the site once was.

Lets be honest, pit heads were not a pretty site - but something about them still strikes a chord for me. And for all you ex-miners out there - theres a Henry Moore sketch on display of miners coming off duty that I would bet will bring a tear to your eye as you recall the comradeship and community of mining folk.

Sorry this is going off-topic, especially as the Grate Bonzo is lurking!

WAKEFIELD TRINITY - The PRIDE of Sporting Wakefield

THE DEFINITION OF INSANITY IS DOING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND EXPECTING DIFFERENT RESULTS

I take it you've forgotten the 5 million they spent on a bridge, yes a bridge! That's really going to bring in tourists isn't it?
