If there were no good scholarships for 13/14 year olds then, then they wll have to invest in established players to make up their squad.
Their apparent "English" contingent is primarily Castleford based..... Our club should be proud of that.
Professionals in anything will take an offer of more money. I would and so would a rugby player.
The comment about "more chance of being in finals" is irrelevant (and also incorrect, as we have been nearer to a major final ourselves in the last three years than Hull have)
good post. anyway this is hardly a new thing is it? our teams of the early 80s were made up mainly of kiwis, locals and players from the wakey/cas area, we have always taken players from this area. much as it would be nice to win a cup final with a team full of locals this is modern sport and you build the best team you can taking young players from clubs far and wide, you only have to look at football to see that, where the top teams academies are composed not of locals but foreign youngsters. The encouraging thing for FC is that the numbers of young players making the step up is increasing again, after a few years of neglect - something which is happening at quite a few other clubs too
