A club that makes this statement about a fringe academy player;
The Hull Daily Mail -
Hayward, 20, who has played just one game for the Tigers reserves this season, was yesterday give a suspended six-month prison sentence and ordered to do 180 hours of community service when he appeared for sentencing at Leeds Crown Court.
In a statement, Castleford said: "We cannot condone the behaviour of Steve Hayward and, as a result, we have terminated his contract with immediate effect.
"As a club, we undertake an enormous amount of work in local schools promoting lifestyle messages in which our players are heavily involved.
"To do this players need to be role models and the behaviour of which the player has been convicted is totally unacceptable and had we retained his services it would have sent out entirely the wrong message."
But now say (in the Guardian);
Aspinwall, who started his career on the wing with Wigan, has been a regular in the Castleford pack this season after joining them from Huddersfield. He scored one of the tries in their dramatic comeback for a 22-22 draw at home to Wigan last Sunday and the Tigers' coach, Terry Matterson, hinted that the club may give him another chance when he has served his sentence
It would appear in the few years that have gone by Castleford have changed their morals.
Personally think Martin should be allowed to do his time and then make up for it in community work in and around the Castleford area while being a proper role model to children. However I just find it very hard going by the first Castleford statement to see how they can justify keeping him at the club?
