So Wakefield and Cas are top of the Under 18`s league, both clubs will finish in SL top 8. Both areas produce many many players for other pro clubs. Two good community departments and yet there are still people in the media and the game in general who say we should merge, we should share a ground etc etc.
We have each had our own grounds for over 100 years, it hasn`t done any harm to the game. we have a great history. Why do the RL league media and pundits continue to highlight any of pitch negatives they can instead of emphasizing the facts that both clubs play some great rugby and continue to produce some of the best young players in the game.
Rugby League is better with a strong Wakefield and a strong Cas, both clubs have proved the pundits wrong this season. I hope we do not meet in the first week of the play offs, I would like to see Wakey beat Catalans and Cas beat Wigan, then lets see the RL Media and TV pundits talk about the need for us to merge or ground share. Viva La difference.
I agree with every word BCT!
Add to your list that 7 of the 16 teams to make the Carnegie Schools Cup finals this year are from the Cas or Wakefield area. Big respect to Castleford High who have done an amazing job.
The only player currently earning his money in the NRL is a product of Wakefield and he is due to be joined by Chris feather who came through the Academy with him.
When you look around the SL teams you will find many many Cas or Wakefield produced players
e.g. Lynch, Godwin. Orr, Westwood, Mason, ect...ect...
If the day ever arrives when the RFL or SLE force a merger or omit one of our clubs they will have weakened the game as a whole.
