As much as I thought Cas were the better team overall - made much the greater yardage on average with our sets of 6 than Wakey - I must commend Wakey on their dogged defence near their own line. This, along with the far superior short kicking game meant the game stayed as close as it did.
On Silverwood's performance - I don't think it was too bad though I believe the penalty count was around 7-3 to Wakey over the normal 80 mins which suggests Cas were much more indisciplined than Wakey, which I don't think they were.
The Fozzard penalty that gifted Wakey a 2pt lead with only 10 mins to go was a poor decision IMO. It could have been awarded as a high-tackle penalty against Morrison to start with. All Fozzard did then was to flail about (including his head) whilst on the floor - something that happens numerous times in a game - in an attempt to draw the refs attention to the fact the tackler was laying on a bit long. He caught Morrison with the back of his head and Morrison suddenly thought he was playing the round ball game so exaggerated the extent of the contact. 9 times out of 10 a ref would just tell the players to get up and get on with it but being fully aware of the serious implications awarding the penalty to Wakey would have, he still chose to do so.
Fair play to the bloke though - I wouldn't have complained had he opted not to award a penalty right at the end of the 1st period of extra time, so I suppose that balances out the decision re. Fozzard.
