It was a shame that this game didnt have a ref that fitted the bill. He couldnt keep up with play and was way out of his depth. I really believe that if we had a ref that would let us play the game at the pace we are capable of we would have won today at a canter.
Hewer is a very good ref at this level normally. I know that he was invited to go full time this season but he turned the offer down to preserve his day job.
I understand he had some travel problems en-route to the game today, maybe he was off colour, under-prepped on arrival at the stadium.
Lots of hands on faces and roughing up in the tackle and slowing us down at the play the ball.
Teams know that we are a quick team and it is frustrating for Fax fans but the opposition will try these tactics on us and if the ref lets them get away with it, they will do it!
Referees need to be alert to the style of play of teams and they should be strong enough to step in and allow the game to play to its full potential.
What has happened to outlawing the grapple tackle? At the start of the game nearly every Barrow tackle involved one or more players grabbing ours round the throat.
Also, he was ald manned on a few occaisions when their player was holding onto our arms etc so we couldnt get off the tackle. Poor game imo. Same for the tj's!
I think he was particularly poor today (not that I ever thought he was any good).
Barrow were allowed to play the ball a lot quicker than us, because every time we held their players down, to the length of time they held us down, we got penalised.
He missed high tackle after high tackle (we counted seven un-missed high tackles in the first 10 minutes) and he missed Said being kneed in the face.

Not a very good day at the office for him
Officials probably 'missed' a lot yesterday for both sides but the game flowed and it was a better match as a result.
I agree, i thought he let the game flow and it wasn't his decisions that cost anyone the game. The ref is never going to get every decision right when you're a fan, they can never win.
When i was at Featherstone earlier this year i thought the ref had got pretty much every decision wrong, but when i watched it back on the tv he got most of them right. So not everything is black and white just because you think you saw something one way while watching it live.
All i ask is that the ref gives what he sees and not what he thinks happens. If he does that, then that's all you can ask.
