Wales RL Junior Finals : Thu Aug 18, 2011 3:38 pm
Wales Rugby League are staging their national junior finals this Sunday at Caerphilly RFC.

One semi-final and four finals will take place in a five game extravaganza at Virginia Park that kicks off at midday.

Mark Jones, the National Development Manager for Wales said: "The junior leagues in Wales have produced and are still producing quality Super League players who include Crusaders stars like Jamie Murphy, Gil Dudson, Elliot Kear, Lloyd White and the Scorpions Captain Aled James.

"The strength of our junior game was evident throughout the recent East v West Origin festival and Origin games, and many of the players involved today will be progressing to the Regional Development and High Performance squads.

"The aim is to give the players a structured rugby league programme that will prepare them for the next step on the professional player pathway."

Bridgend Blue Bulls and Penallta Storm will contest the under 13s final (1pm) and the Bulls would like to go one step further and win the title after narrowly losing to the NPT Steelers in the 2010 final. But the Storm have a strong squad and will want to avenge their loss to the Bulls in the Scorpions Super Cup earlier on in the season.

The inaugural under 14s crown will have its first winner and the unbeaten NPT Steelers will go into the match as favourites (kick-off 2pm). However the winners of Bridgend Blue Bulls vs GA Giants rearranged semi-final which takes place at midday, will look to upset the form book.

The under 15s final sees the Panthers play the Tydfil Wildcats (kick-off 3.15pm). The Panthers will be fired up in this encounter after narrowly losing to the Storm in last year's final. The Wildcats' form has improved throughout the season and the team will be highly motivated as they are the first team from the club to reach a National final.

The final match is a mouth watering encounter between the reigning under 17s champions Penallta Storm and the Panthers from Pontyclun (kick-off 4.30pm). This promises to be a great game and a superb advert for the development of Rugby League in Wales.

Admission for supporters is £3 per adult and £1 per child or concession.
