Or any other politician ?

In fairness, they (politicians) are not there to entertain us. Someone should have mentioned this to Matt "hanky panky" Hancock though.

Those two words politician and fairness don't seem to fit in with each other in my view.

Yep, Robin Scott.
I looked him up, he's 75 years old now.
I can remember when the single came out and charted.

Me too, and that's just scary Mind you, it was released in '79 but, still......

We were in the "common market" back then.
Not complaining about lack of growth in the economy, due to putting up barriers between ourselves and our closest significant trading partners.Oops.

Oops. If it was JUST the common market we'd still be in it.

Really ??

I think you underestimate the power of the little englanderes controlling the Tory Party just now.
The one thing that is certain is that "project fear" were bang on with their predictions. Hardly surprising when we've put barriers in the way of trading with our neighbours.

As for controlling our borders, that isnt going too well either.

Yes really. IMO it was the Maastricht treaty that was the catalyst for the leave movement.

Doubtful. If that was the case we would have made attempts to join EFTA or tried to negotiate a deal similar that Switzerland have. Which isn't as good as being in the common market as we would still have to produce customs paperwork but does deliver some of the benefits.

We didn't because being in regulatory alignment was one of the red lines.

If we were in the common market Brexit Britain wouldn't have been able to offer Australia (a country that still upholds a ban on British beef) relaxation of standards on meat imports in return for a terrible trade deal that's massively weighted in their favour.
Still the EU couldn't reach and agreement with Australia as quickly as we did could they? To quote Michael Gove they're hamstrung by the need to ensure any trade deal is advantageous to it's member nations. As if that's a bad thing!
