I maintain a public protest any time the national anthem is played.
I'm not religious, and I don't believe in the monarchy. So I sit down through it.
The sooner we move over to Jeruselam, the better. Brigs a tear to my eye every time I hear it.

Always prefered the Sex Pistols's cover of the national anthem....Its a bit more gritty and tuneful, and coupled with the slight lyric change (which probably reflects public opinion more?) it says a lot more about our country.
The Sex Pistols covered it? When?
I've only ever heard another song with a with the same title but a completely different tune by them (OK "God Save The Queen" not "The National Anthem", but that's splitting hairs).
I too take the silent, seated protest against the National Anthem, disagreeing with it for many reasons, but I don't feel the need to get all upset and arsey about it - If you feel subservient to Queen and country then feel free to sing about them, I'll not argue with your choice.
What I will say though, is that it's the most god awful dirge of a tune. The lyrical content is secondary, like many other anthems I think people from other nations recognise the tune rather than the words.
Although obviously they could confuse it with the Leichtenstein one, which is possibly another good reason to change it.

We'll stick with Flower of Scotland , thanks....You lot can carry on singing about your Germanic rulers for as long as you like.
As opposed to the famous Norman family that ruled Scotland for years with the names like
Robert de Brus
You may recognise his descendant who was named locally as ROBERT the BRUCE. 1314 and all that.

My favourite verse of the Australian Anthem is the 5th one.
Shou'd foreign foe e'er sight our coast,
Or dare a foot to land,
We'll rouse to arms like sires of yore
To guard our native strand;
Brittannia then shall surely know,
Beyond wide ocean's roll,
Her sons in fair Australia's land
Still keep a British soul.
In joyful strains the let us sing
"Advance Australia fair!"
They don't sing that one much these days. Written by a Scotsman of course.

"Arguably the best Rugby League side certainly in the last 40 years!" Phil Clarke.
The trouble with LOHAG is that I keep expecting to hear Windsor Davies yell "SHAAAAATTTUUUUPPPPPPPPP'!'
