It depends what you mean by socialism. Virtually all the world's current ranked 'happiest' nations have strong social structures in place, which at one time would have been considered socialist policies. They have less extremes of income & generally care for their people more - Scandinavia, Netherlands, Canada, Aus, NZ.

Just because I'm alright Jack it doesn't mean to say I can't discuss those who aren't.

Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.

Socialism is a situation where wealth is generated through by the many for the many through the state. I would suggest that wealth generation in all the countries you mentioned is via private enterprise. The difference is the government tax higher and spend on social programs.

Now name a state where the vast majority of the wealth generation is done through the state and I will show a lot of very unhappy people.

I notice the Tories plan to take my kids inheritance from them now, should I still have a house left to leave to them.

Not only the low earners, but now middle earners with aspiration get clobbered.

Unreal

Just answer the question?

I am sure your altruistic tendencies fall short of actually offering to earn less so others in your company can earn more.

The idea spouted on here that the shopfloor generate the wealth in a business would be laughable if it weren't such a bonkers idea.

I bet the people of England, Scotland and the USA have a lot more to dance about than your average North Korean :D

No they don't - and you don't have to wait until you die to pass it on.

Of course they do - it's pretty much a tax on getting dementia.

So Tories tax and spend will defer (again) the removal of the deficit and therefore mean national debt will balloon even further. Where is the criticism?

Just on a small point of order.
If there wasn't anybody manufacturing certain goods or taking coal out of the ground, how would the owner of said business make any money ?
Yes, in theory they could become a trader but, then we arrive back at how that business would make any money.
Of course the workers generate the wealth for the owner of any business aided, hopefully, by astute management.
However, without the grafters, there wouldn't be any fat cats. Quite ironic really, dont you think.
The "workers" (well most of them) couldn't run the business but, dont kid yourself that their part isnt important.
In civilised society, nobody should be killing themselves to make another man rich, they should work hard and be rewarded reasonably well for their efforts.
There are major issues with some salaries in this country, not least when you compare government ministers with their counterparts in local government.
We have leaders of local authorities earning more than the prime minister, that cant be right ?
Public servants on gilt edged pensions, when the people that they once served may not even have a pension, and they often get those pensions "bumped up" to allow them to retire early, that cant be right either ?
