Not at all. People can be educated as they like but not in a way that allows privilege to be passed on between generations. Each generation should succeed on their own wits and merits without having a leg up compared with their peers.

Ah, so people can get whatever education they like as long as you're not from a wealthy background, you have to be punished.

Tell me, when this well thought out plan of yours is implemented, and the nation is awash with entrepreneurs, if these people then have kids, do these kids then go to the back of the queue of education, y'know, we can't have them getting an unfair advantage, can we?

No, as I said they could go through the state education system.

No, the enrepreneur's kids would not go to the back of any queue they would be entitled to a similar education to others' kids.

What I find odd is that people are so protective of private education which cuts their offspring off from mainstream society. The only reason can be because they perceive it as buying privilege, which generally it does. If people had confidence in their offspring's abilities to succeed they would not be so protective.

Furthermore, private school's should not benefit from charitable status as it is anachronistic and derives from an era when they were truly charitable before getting hijacked by the well to do. Full fees should be paid and should also have VAT exemption removed as they presumably provide a more valuable service than the state sector so far as the sheep that send their kids to such schools are concerned? Take away charitable status and VAT exemption and the fees should increase quite significantly and more properly reflect the value of these establishments!

YES!

Don't people have to work for their rewards instead of sponging off others?

Don't people have to aspire by their own efforts?

Does the word HYPOCRISY have any meaning to "right WHINGERS"?

Right, you need to make your mind up, can people be educated as they like or do they all have to be educated the same way?

It's not the actual private education people are protective of, it's the freedom to have the choice.

Cobblers, its the chance to set off the fees against tax that they like. End this little perk by stopping their charity status and see how many survive.

Ah, so it's not about the kids education. It's about the money.

As Dally mentions above, refuse collection from business premises was removed from the responsibility of the local councils at least fifteen years ago, instead you now get fleeced by the likes of Biffa who assume that all businesses need skip-sized wheelie bins to remove a couple of waste paper baskets of general office rubbish every week.

Well that was probably a bad example given the state run nursery school my wife works for also has to use Biffa. That is refuse collection was privatised. The school has to pay for it and she is forever battling duff invoices etc.

And you still have to pay the same business rates, it really is an inadequate and inequitable system of simply removing profit from a business and one of the main reasons why so many independents fail on the High Street.

How naive are you and Dally? You don't expect to pay less tax (local or otherwise) when a service once provided by the LA (or central govt) is now provided by a private company do you? Lowering taxes has never been what privatisation was about.

You have to pay twice. Obviously.
