Quick rental question : Thu Jul 31, 2014 9:48 am
The tenancy on the house I'm in expires on the 31/10/14. I received a letter today telling me theres a £120 admin fee if I wish to stay in the property. I think its in my original contract, but I believed I'd enter a rolling contract. To me £120 seems ludicrous.

I was wondering if anyones experienced similar, or if the amount is higher than average. I dont want to move but am generally considering it now.

I have no idea. Why not contact the landlord and say you really want to stay but can't really afford the £120 and would hate to have to move to another property to avoid paying it and see if they would waive it.

I've emailed the letting agent asking for an explanation of the admin work required. They wont give me the landlords details, I've asked before.

They should tell you who the landlord is and if they still don't when you ask them again tell the letting agent that you will take things further.

fairly standard I am afraid, dependant on your original tenancy agreement, if you can scan and email it I'll happily have a look over it.

It's money for old rope as most lettings agents just use standard tenancies, what are the notice clauses?

In England and Wales, thankfully these charges have been rightly outlawed here.

You have no rights to know who the ;landlord is, they pay (via your rent) the letting leech to handle the admin, I doubt the landlord would be aware its happening and will only be aware of a change when he stops getting rent when you leave.
