| Has he been forced into his thoughts on same sex marriage?
Is this only to gain the gay vote and give up on the fundamentalists?
Why after 4 years has his opinion only just being given?
I hold the opinion that he see's it as a gradual work in process, first the health reforms then marriage equality, what next? With the economy as it is a very risky thing to do but when was the right thing ever easy?

This is the problem with the civil rights movement they don't know when to stop.
What if he ends up abolishing the death penalty, banning guns etc, it could be the death of America as we know it.

I see the problem!
On another note can a President undo pardons made by a former President?

| I saw a pie chart on Stephen Fry's twitter account which is would be fitting, unfortunately I haven't worked out a way to post it.

| Before our Yank shirt-lifting friends get too animated, they should realise that Cameron backed gay marriage a year ago and it's doubtful anything will happen in the term of this parliament

| Hasn't Cameron backed down form those comments in an effort to appease Conservative backbenchers after poor local elections?

I was surprised that the gay marriage question was raised by a voter at a recent house party with our local Tory MP. It was a huge issue to the guy and he did not like the idea one little bit. I'd imagine there's a lot like him around the country. They may be a minority but it's a very big issue to them.

It's always perplexed me as to why people regard it as a big issue. I'd have said that crime, the economy and education were "bigger issues", not the fact that two people who have no connection to me want to have some form of equality in their lives.
If only people got themselves into such a lather about important stuff.

Indeed. Some of the comments on the [iTelegraph[/i website in recent weeks have been hysterical – in more ways than one. There seem to be people out there who really believe that the issue of gay marriage will create something close to revolution.
