On reflection this was a game we should have won. We simply didn't take our chances and our defence in midfield made Cas look good. It's easy to criticise individuals, but IMO it was generally a poor team performance not helped by some individual errors. I said a few days ago if we played as we did against Huddersfield we would beat them - well I'll amend that - we would have hammered Cas, BUT we were nowhere near as good and Cas deserved to win, because on the night once again, they played better rugby than us. Consistency is what makes teams good and we are not consistent. Last nights team effort was miles short of the Hudds game. As for TJ - what a bloody waste of talent!
He didn't have to do a lot did he? Our one man Rugby with no support made it easy for them. Our terrible last tackle plays made it easy for them. We have one of the best wingers in the league, we didn't create a single overlap for him, that made it easy for them. We kicked once to the corner for TJ it went out on the full, tried it on the other side, it went sideways. I could go on and on, our performance was poor again. Are Castleford a team of superstars? No, thought not. Is it a hoodoo? Nah I don't believe in such things. 15 in a row says Powell out coaches Chester every single time and this time we handed it to them on a plate.
That's not being out coached is it either put up reasons or take the easy option we put it on a plate
I did only see the first 35 minutes but what was clear is that they had been told to retain the ball at all costs. I don’t know if they hoped this would lead to Castleford getting fatigued and making mistakes. It unfortunately did not work because they knew there would be no second phase which is vital when trying to break a team down. I don’t know if Chester realised this and changed it in the second half.

You know if you count up how many games we 'should' have won now this season, we'd be in the top 4?! This is the whole argument against Chester isn't it, too many times when it counts, we just don't deliver when it matters. That performance was like rewinding to 4 or 5 weeks ago, loads of effort and guts, just poor with the ball, last tackle plays terrible, stupid penalties, no cohesion, individuals running down blind alleys etc, etc. I think at half time they had made 7 or 8 handling errors, yet they went in front at the break! Ohhh well I suppose we should be all used to it against them, we just can't seem to perform against them can we?! Very disappointing.
I thought we did well against Hull Kr and better still against Huddersfield but the signs of regression began to appear against Leigh. I suppose we will find out if Chester is capable of stopping the slide.
Discussion on here prior to the game was who would stand down for TJ to come into the team, may as well have kept Liam K in, for all the ball that TJ got. I can't recall him getting one pass.
The game was summed up, for me, at the end of the first half when there was 13 seconds left on the clock and Westerman ends up driving the ball in from about 20m out. Clueless.
Did a Tom watch - got one pass and carried four out from near the line.......
Castleford play good rugby with a deep attacking line and lots of ball movement and support play and it works really well for them. We resolutely insist on this very flat attack and using our entire three quarter line as battering rams up the middle.
The ironic thing about our gameplan is that it is all focused on metre making and getting into an attacking position, only to have no clue what we are going to do when we get there.

Agreed, I did one too. It's incomprehensible that given our inability to score we make no attempt to repeatedly get our match winning try scorer into the plays. Literally one pass all night to him. What a complete F waste. You can't tell me that the responsibility for that doesn't predominantly lie with the coaching. We look absolutely abysmal with the ball in hand at times. No attacking lines just shoveling it along the line half the time (usually on the 4th tackle after 4 drives). Mind numbing to watch
I don't usually post after we've beaten you as it looks like trolling but I'll make an exception as no one has mentioned hoe slow Wakey's ruck speed was compared with Cas. Watch it back and there are several times when the tackled Trin player could have easily regained his feet and executed a quick play the ball but chose to (unsuccessfully) try to milk a penalty.

Ruck speed was slow on many occasions because of the excessive "holding down" by Cas long after the tackle had been completed.
