I'm trying to think what positives he brought to RL.

What has he done to deserve national recognition? Nothing stands out for me maybe I'm missing something. Did he bring the WC to the UK, Did player participation increases in communities, is the game on a better financial footing........ In his international role is the game globally in a better position????/

Err yes... twice. And he was tournament director for the pretty well-regarded 2013 event.

I believe though it is primarily to do with his work on establishing and sourcing funding for Rugby League Cares and other community/charitable work.

Maybe they were comparing him to Ralph 'Let the kids cry' Rimmer, saying that he'd get a knighthood if that was the case
