When's this forum finally getting a badge logo instead of appearing "RLFANS" ? Why did they descide to move the newly formed club to Neath? Wot ever happend to the brewery field & if it's still there why was the new scorpians club not located there?

plus the Brewery Field is not owned by the Club but by 'Brewery Field Ltd' (owned 50:50 Bridgend RU/FC), as for why Neath I have no idea? We'll not only be sharing with the local RU side but Neath FC as well. To be brutally honest they were probably the only local RU club that would allow a League club to play on their pitch!

Leyther, in answer to your first question, dunno.

In answer to your other two, politics shouting and ill feeling by those involved I've heard.

There was no way the Scorpions would play at The Brewery Field as that ground is not only jointly- owned by Bridgend football and Bridgend rugby but the word is that the Welsh Rugby Union paid Bridgend Rugby's share as they are strapped for cash

Neath's ground is owned by a wealthy benefactor who:

a) is going to develope the ground
b) is happy for other sports to be played there

and he is chums with the Owner of the New Scorpions side

The Brewery Field was owned by Mr Samuel who had bought it from Brigend RUFC. In the early part of last season he sold it back to a consortium of the homeless but cash rich Bridgend AFC and the RU club. The WRU funded the money paid by the RUFC.

Mr Samuel made a substantial profit on the transaction. It was said at the time that the sale took place because the ground could not be brought up to SL standards by the time the next time the next round of licence applications for SL were due.

Whe the Crusaders club moved to Wrexham (with the agreement of the RFL) two approaches were made to form a new NL1 team in South Wales. One from Bridgend and one from Neath. Neath were accepted, Bridgend were not.

A lot more could be said or alluded to but it is prbably best to let the matter rest.

:) With some hard work and effort there's no reason why the Scorpions can't be a great success! I for one can't wait to buy my replica shirt when they are available to show my support for the hard work going on in South Wales.

'YOU AINT SEEN NOTHING LIKE THE DAMIEN QUINN'

Re: inquisitive : Mon Feb 01, 2010 3:41 pm
There were a couple of reasons given for the choice of Neath at the supporters meeting a few weeks ago.

The first was that it is available throughout the Summer, many others are not because they are council owned, and they will only reseed/maintain the ground throughout the summer months. Secondly, as previously stated, Phil Davies (the club's owner) is good friends with Geraint Hawkes (the owner of the Gnoll), and Hakwes has big plans for the ground. And finally, the other options were Sardis Road in Pontypridd or the Brewery Field.

Sardis Road isn't up to the standard of the other two (though the Gnoll's not great at the moment), and when Ponty didn't play there for about 2 months after the Wales-Ireland international in the European Cup. The Brewery Field quoted way over the odds for the use of the ground, and by the time they realised the Scorpions weren't interested in the offer, and came back with a price around half that of the original quote, the deal had already been agreed with Neath.

and Grendel, we agree on something. The kits are 'cking horrible!!
