Can not see why if he's say 3/1 for next year and if he did that happened he would be say 2/1 for a repeat the following year making a 11/1 double...Bookies are a cautious breed so would offer you perhaps 10/1, can not see why they will not lay prices as you can not expect massive odds and things are in their favour keeping him sound for 2 years plus repelling all raiders twice.

Yeah just reading that now - still has to be odds-against him running again this year.

Couple of decent prices in the Champion Hurdle IMO are Hurricane Fly @ 8/1 (Ladbrokes price) and Quevega @ 20/1 (Hills price). Just looking over the three races at 2-2 1/2m on the Tuesday and the form all points to Hurricane Fly but the clock points to Quevega.

The finale of the Supreme was run quicker than that of the Champion but the Champion was run flat out from the off, on the other hand the Mares Hurdle was run bang on RP standard (compared to roughly 10 seconds slower over 2m for both the Supreme and the Champion) whilst the last 3f of the Mares Hurdle (leader taking off 3 out to Quevega crossing the line) was half a second quicker than the Supreme and 3 seconds quicker than the Champion (with the ground having softened between the Champion and the Mares race) and allowing for Quevega not being at full stretch to win.

Flakey Dove won it in the early 90's. Bilboa placed in it a few years ago for Francois Doumen.

United has come back in good a form as ever this year - at Fontwell in early 07 she smashed Refinement by 14 lengths who then went on to run Whiteoak to a short-head in last years Mares Hurdle.

The jist of it being that if you're good enough it doesn't matter if you're male or female.

so if it was up to mcririck the horse can not win although im sure he said that about 5yo katchit last year :roll:

More 5yos try and win the Champion than fillies/mares too so that's another stat. Celestial Halo went close as a 5yo this year too mind and so did Binocular.
