Wizards set for Grand Final showdown : Thu Sep 23, 2010 8:46 pm
Warrington Wizards will face Huddersfield Underbank Rangers in The Co-operative Rugby League Conference National Grand Final at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Sunday, kick off 12.30pm. The game is part of the Co-operative Finals Day triple header and will be followed by Oldham v York City Knights and then Featherstone Rovers v Halifax RLFC. Tickets for the game are available from the RFL at www.rugbyleaguetickets.co.uk or you can pay on the day although this is not advised as demand is likely to be high.
The Wizards reached their first Grand Final with an excellent win at Bramley and Huddersfield repeated that feat at the weekend by winning 24-12 at the home of the current champions to reach the final for the second successive year having lost to the Buffaloes last season. Wizards Assistant Coach Mike Grady is looking forward to the game. He said, “It’s a fantastic achievement to reach the final in what has been the most competitive league to date. We are going to enjoy the day and make the most of being in the final. It is going to be a great occasion and I want the players to go out and express themselves in the same way that they have done all season. The game is going to be very close between two teams who have finished the season in great form; you don’t get to Grand Finals if you are a poor side and both of the teams have thoroughly deserved to get there having both won away at Bramley. If we stick to what we do best then I am confident that we will be lifting the trophy at the end of the game.” Grady, appointed at the beginning of the season to work alongside Head Player/Coach Chris Campbell added, “From a personal point of view I have really enjoyed this season, Chris and myself have worked really well together. I have had a lot of responsibility especially on matchday’s with Chris still being on the pitch and I have loved every minute of it. I just want to put on record my thanks to the Wizards committee Warren, Nikki and Dave Whalley and Andrew Beevers for giving me and Chris the opportunity and supporting us this year and also to the players who have responded so well to us. Now we have to complete the job and get the game won.” |
